Welcome!

This is the first meeting of the Scottish Linked Data Interest Group.  In response to the growing interest around Linked Data, a few of us (Paola di Maio, Jeff Pan, Bill Roberts) working in this area in Scotland decided it would be good to have a series of meet-ups devoted to the topic. Our concept for the meetings is:

  • an emphasis on connecting different groups: people who have data to share, people who want to use data and people with tools for working with linked data. We want to help them to work together to achieve great things
  • a roughly 50/50 split of presentations and time for discussions and networking, in an informal friendly atmosphere
  • rotate the venue around the main cities of Scotland so we share out the travelling and access a big enough group of people to make the meetups work
  • meetings roughly four times a year

The meetings are free and open to anyone.  Because the venue has limited capacity and to help with planning we'd like to know how many people are coming, so please register for the event here.

Bill is organising the first event, to take place in Edinburgh on 13 July.  Jeff is lined up to arrange the next event in the series.

Programme

Tuesday 13 July, 2010

7.00pm  Arrive

7.15-8.15 Presentations

Location

The event will take place in Edinburgh, in the Outhouse in Broughton Street Lane, in the function room upstairs.  The marker on the Google map to the right is roughly at the eastern end of the lane, but in fact easiest access is from Broughton Street.  Take a look at the Contact Us section at http://www.outhouse-edinburgh.co.uk/ for details.

The Outhouse is roughly 10 minutes walk from Waverley Station.

If coming by car, on-street parking may be tricky, but there are 3 NCP car parks nearby - see http://www.ncp.co.uk/multimapForm.aspx

Refreshment

The Outhouse has a bar where you can buy drinks.  Pizza or similar sustenance will be provided (free) after the talks to help fuel the discussion.
